wings_logo_300The Zonta Club of Burbank has announced a new grant program called, “Wings,” that will provide financial assistance for adult women overcoming adversity and going back to school. The program offers up to $2,000 to pay for tuition, books, equipment or related items necessary to complete academic or vocational training leading to employment and self-sufficiency.

“We know how difficult it is for women trying to recover from divorce, escape from an abusive relationship, death of a spouse or other major life changing event. We want to help women who have made a commitment to turn their lives around through education but might be struggling with the financial burden that often comes with it,” says Sharon Cohen, President of the Zonta Club of Burbank . Candidates are referred to Zonta by counselors in educational or vocational institutions, social agencies or non-profit organizations. Grants are awarded year-round. First priority is given to Burbank residents, but applications will be considered from North Hollywood, Toluca Lake, Sun Valley, Sunland/Tujunga, Studio City, Shadow Hills, Panorama City, Pacoima, Arleta and other areas east of Van Nuys Blvd.

Information about the Wings grant program is available through counseling offices at the Burbank Adult School, Glendale Community College, and other area schools offering adult classes. More information is also available by email at nbonner1@yahoo.com or by visiting Zonta’s website.
