Every child who has ever wanted to discover what it’s like to be a firefighter will get a chance to do just that at the Burbank Fire Department’s National Fire Service Day. This family event is free and open to the public. Start the day off with pancakes (yum!) then explore the fire department and get a look at what a day in the life of a firefighter might include. There are plenty of activities to keep the kids busy plus entertainment and demonstrations for the adults, too.
The Deets:
- Saturday, May 8 from 9:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M
- Orange Grove Ave & Third Street Downtown Burbank (in front of Burbank Police-Fire Headquarters)
“Celebrated in front of the Burbank Police-Fire Headquarters on Orange Grove Ave & Third Street, there will be vehicle displays, demonstrations, firefighting activities for kids, continuous live entertainment, food and special appearances by the Department’s popular mascot, Lil’ Squirt.
“In addition to getting a rare behind-the-scenes look at day-to-day firehouse operations, it’s a great opportunity see what’s involved in vehicle ‘Jaws of Life’ extrication, airport crash units and hazmat operations. Attendees are invited to learn rappelling skills and meet the men and women of the Burbank Fire Department, dedicated to providing a safe environment for all of us to live and work in.
“The day will begin with an early morning Pancake Breakfast presented by the Burbank Community YMCA from 7:00 to 10:00 A.M. The breakfast will take place inside Fire Station 11. Following the breakfast, Santoro’s Sub Sandwich will serve a “firefighters special” lunch from 9:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M.
“What’s more, The Burbank Fire Department is joining with the Burbank Police Department in recognizing National Police Memorial Week, May 9 through 15. Burbank Police will be on hand with the mounted unit, K-9 division, Dare Van, Animal Shelter, Special Response Team and more. National Police Memorial Week pays tribute to law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty.” (City of Burbank)
