Calling all Zombies

I am a Halloween junkie. I love dressing up. I love haunted houses and Halloween parties. I plan my costume way in advance. And of course, I love Michael Jackson’s “Thriller.” I’ll listen to it repeatedly during the Halloween season. That’s why I was super excited to discover “Thrill the World” 2009 from Creepy: The Los Angeles Halloween Blog. It’s an event where people get together to learn and perform the classic zombie dance from “Thriller!”
It started in 2006 after dance instructor Ines Markelle of Toronto, Ontario organized 62 people to dance to “Thriller,” earning a Guiness World Record. This year’s Thrill the World event takes place on October 24, and they are hoping to beat their record, which will probably happen considering all the media attention surrounding Michael Jackson’s recent death. People can’t get enough of his music, and I think “Thriller” will be even more popular this season.
If this has piqued your interest at all, think about signing up with Thrill the World L.A. They describe themselves as “a bunch of fun-loving people who’ve set up weekly practices at a dozen locations across L.A. where we will teach you how to do the Thriller dance! And once you learn the dance we want you to come participate in Thrill The World Los Angeles; our part in a worldwide attempt by hundreds of cities and thousands of people to set the record for the most people to simultaneously perform Thriller
on Oct 24th.”
It’s also free to participate. I’m sold! Where do I sign up? Right here.
Bonus! There are also two opportunities to perform on October 31 as well—one in Long Beach, and one at the Clippers half time show at Staples Center.
The TTWLA team was started by Mahdroo McCaleb and Amanda Ayres. TTWLA participated for the first time in 2008 and stomped through Hollywood & Highland Center in front of a crowd of hundreds and media crews from NBC 4, KTLA 5, ABC 7, Fox 11, CNN, and the Los Angeles Times. TTWLA is not a professional dance group but a team of fun loving people from all walks of life. 2009 LA Team is lead by Amanda Ayres with Nayla Wren as co-leader and Oakley Boren as publicist.
As soon as I finish writing this blog, I’m signing up. Who’s with me?!
Please check the Thrill the World website regularly for updated information.
