Hey, Burbankians. I was poring over all the info on Burbank’s website and wanted to share with you some important events going on in the community. There are a handful of activities on the agenda, so mark your calendars. Meetings, Nominations and Workshops—oh my!
California High-Speed Rail Meeting
The City of Burbank is hosting a community meeting to receive public comments on the proposed California High Speed Rail project. The route of the train system would pass through the City of Burbank and would include a stop near Downtown Burbank. The community is strongly encouraged to attend and ask questions regarding the Rail project.

Outstanding Youth Award Nominations
Nominations are now being taken for Burbank’s “Austin Cook Award for Outstanding Youth” for recognition in May 2010.
Each year the City of Burbank’s Youth Board honors outstanding youth that have positively contributed to the community. Examples might include, but are not limited to, youth that have provided outstanding volunteer service, an achievement while overcoming adversity, and youth donating their talents to the community. This award program is designed to highlight middle and high school aged teens who live or go to school in Burbank.
Submit completed forms by April 2, 2010. Mail or drop-off applications to: Burbank Park, Recreation, & Community Services Dept. Victoria O’Neill – Recreation Supervisor 601 S. San Fernando Blvd. Burbank, CA 91502 Fax: (818) 238-5438

Composting Workshops
I’ve written about this before, but wanted to remind you about Burbank’s free composting workshops. The Burbank Recycle Center continues to host new free composting workshops to celebrate Burbank’s 20th anniversary of backyard composting. Click here for dates and more information.
Community outreach is at the heart of Burbank Recycling. They run a free educational center for all ages to learn about recycling. Burbank Recycling plays an active role in community events and fundraisers. They also provide recycling promotion during civic events (like giving out free recycling bins).
