20435_1114098071116_1786876654_239892_7314342_nI was reading over the announcements at Burbank Wire as I often do and found that Burbank On Parade is now accepting applications to participate AND the city’s Park and Recreation Department is accepting nominations for the Older American’s Volunteer Service Awards. The two are not directly related, but both events do celebrate the community in some way. Read on to find out how you can get involved!

Burbank On Parade

Burbank On Parade Celebrates the Big Top on Saturday April 10th at 11 am (Olive Avenue Between Keystone and Lomita). There are lots of ways to get involved with the parade. You can volunteer to help out, march in the parade, become a sponsor, etc. They are currently looking for sponsors, volunteers and parade entries. Here’s how to get your application to participate:

Simply go to www.burbankonparade.com and print out an application. Easy as pie.

The Theme this Year is: THE BIG TOP. The selection committee will be choosing entries that best fit our theme, so think anything Circus!  Clowns, Acrobats, Animals, Magic! You can dress up, do tricks, juggle, dance, or even ride a unicycle!

You can also, check out Burbank on Parade’s Facebook Page to find up-to-date information.

Burbank Older Americans Volunteer Service Awards

During the month of May, the City of Burbank Park and Recreation Department will celebrate Older American’s Month.  A major focus is to honor six outstanding volunteers for the 2010 Older American Volunteer Service Awards. Nominations are currently being accepted for these awards. Nominate an older adult volunteer who has made a significant contribution to your organization. Recipients will be honored in May, “Older Americans Month.” Nominees must be 60 or over, Burbank residents, have volunteered a significant amount of time since May 2009, and have not received this award in the past. Please help acknowledge the efforts and devotion of these special individuals.

The deadline for submissions is by March 5, 2010. For more information, call Dee Call at (818) 238-5370.

The Nomination form and supplemental information can be found here.
