Free Film Series at Woodbury University

Woodbury University is hosting a new FREE film series on Tuesdays called the Special Effects Master Series. Hollywood’s special effects masters will show clips from their films, explain the process, and take questions from the audience. The films will be shown from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Fletcher Jones Auditorium. If you have an interest in the world of special effects, this would be a great place to get some information, and you just can’t beat the price!
Guests scheduled to appear are as follows:
January 26 — John Dykstra, winner of two Oscars and eight other awards, as well as 17 nominations in visual effects, director, and motion control. His work includes Silent Running, Star Wars, Star Trek, Caddyshack, Firefox, Invaders from Mars, My Stepmother is an Alien, Batman Forever, Batman & Robin, Stuart Little, Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2, Hancock, and Inglorious Basterds.
February 2 — John Sullivan, a visual effects specialist whose films include The Pacific, Next Club Soda, Just Like Heaven, Red Eye, Collateral, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Bulletproof Monk, Basic, City by the Sea, Rollerball, Red Serpent, Little Nicky, The Thomas Crown Affair, The 13th Warrior, Eraser, Die Hard: With a Vengeance, The Santa Clause, The Shadow, Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult, The Age of Innocence, Last Action Hero, A Few Good Men, Ghost Dad, My Stepmother Is an Alien, Spaceballs, Lifeforce, Firefox, and Star Trek: The Motion Picture.
February 9 — John Stirber and Roy Downey, practical effects and pyro professionals whose projects include Jericho, Patriots and Tyrants, Rambo, Ask the Dust Taylor, Flightplan, Serenity, Stuart Little 2, First Light, The Deluge, Witch Hunt, The Pagemaster, Silent Tongue, Cabin Boy, Thunderheart, Roadside Prophets, Broadway Bound, Diplomatic Immunity, Dances with Wolves, Dick Tracy, Winter People, Journey to the Center of the Earth, Million Dollar Mystery, Stewardess School, Red Sonja, Dune, Conan the Destroyer, The Thing, Heartbeeps, The Final Destination, Jumper, Live Free or Die Hard, Next Night at the Museum, Deck the Halls, Poseidon, Supernova, Fight Club, Armageddon, Godzilla, Volcano, Broken Arrow, Waterworld, and True Lies.

February 23 — Jeff Okun and Tom Boland, visual effects vs digital effects, whose work includes The Day the Earth Stood Still, Blood Diamond, The Guardian, The Last Samurai, Red Planet, Deep Blue Sea, Sphere, Lolita, and Stargate.
March 2 — Jim Dickson, cinematographer and technical animation specialist for Stanley Kubrick on 2001: A Space Odyssey, whose work includes Star Trek: The Motion Picture, Crimson Tide, and most recently, the horror film Red Velvet.
