Enjoy a Free Night of Theater on Oct 15

| No CommentFree Night of Theater is a nationwide program offering tickets to a broad range of performances. It takes place this year on October 15, so if you’ve been itching to go to a show, but don’t have the dough, now is the time to go (I apologize for the rhyming. Icouldn’t help myself). Last fall, 650 theatre companies, in 120 cities from coast to coast, opened their doors to over 65,000 new theatergoers. This year the participating theatre companies will offer even more tickets for free. Join thousands of audience members and explore all the wonderful entertainment your local theatre community has to offer. You really can’t beat free.
This program is meant to encourage those who don’t normally attend theater shows to try it out and hopefully come back for more. Participating theatres are offered tools, suggestions, and training on how best to work with Free Night patrons to encourage them to return, and retention rates and patterns are carefully measured. Free Night is aimed at people who can (and do) become paying customers, while still successfully reaching groups that are currently under-represented in theatre audiences across the country.
Many local theater companies are participating, including Burbank’s Colony Theatre Company; Costa Mesa’s South Coast Repertory; A Noise Within in Glendale; L.A.’s Odyssey Theatre; Center Theatre Group’s Kirk Douglas Theatre in Culver City and Pasadena’s the Theatre @ Boston Court.
Theatre Communications Group (TCG) is celebrating their 5th year with the Free Night of Theater Program. TCG is the national organization for America’s not-for-profit professional theatres. For nearly 50 years TCG has helped an ever-expanding number of theatres and theatre practitioners pursue their goals while creating a powerful voice for the field.
Over the past 50 years, TCG has arranged gatherings and education programs, kept its finger on the industry’s pulse through research studies, advocated for federal policy and free speech, published some of the field’s best writers, given grants for artistry and professional development and helped cultivate generations of artistic and administrative talent. Over time, these practical acts have unified to create a powerful leadership entity for the field.
