Visiting Mr. Green at the Colony Theatre Company

VisitingMrGreenSEASONThe Colony Theatre Company presents the second production of its 35th anniversary season, Visiting Mr. Green, written by Jeff Baron and directed by David Rose. The play began at the end of August and will continue through September 27 at The Colony Theatre in Burbank. Visiting Mr. Green is a story about parents and children, lifelong secrets, and finding friendship in unlikely places. This bittersweet comedy shows that wisdom and folly come at any age and unexpected visitors are sometimes the ones we need the most.

A recent L.A. Times review had this to say about Visiting Mr. Green:

“Jeff Baron’s much-produced 1996 two-hander about an accidental inter-generational alliance enjoys an adept staging that treats the old-school calculations with unexpectedly involving ease…In 2007, author Baron revised it for British stalwart Warren Mitchell, the version seen here. This proves a mercy, since Baron’s trims excise ballast from a sentimentally predisposed narrative to emphasize the dual character studies at its core.”

Jeff Baron is one of the world’s most-produced playwrights in the past decade, with well over 300 productions in 22 languages in 37 countries.  His recent work has originated in Australia, France, Argentina, Croatia and Austria.  He’s worked with many of the world’s great actors and directors, and has personally directed several of his own world premieres.

David Rose has directed over 25 productions since he became a Colony Theatre Company member in 1990, including last season’s Mary’s Wedding and The Voice of the Prairie. He is the former Artistic Director of The New York Comedy Repertory Ensemble and a founding member of Washington D.C.’s acclaimed Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company.

The Colony Theatre Company is Burbank’s premiere professional theatre. It was voted “Best Live Theatre in L.A.” in The Daily News 2006 Readers’ Choice poll, and has been named one of “25 Notable U.S. Theatre Companies” by Encyclopedia Britannica Almanac for 6 years in a row. If you haven’t seen a production from the Colony Theatre Company, now is the time! Check out Visiting Mr. Green and gives us your own review.

“It is doubtful you are likely to encounter a play more enjoyable, more honestly funny, and in the end, more moving.”  – The Johannesburg Citizen
