Flair Cleaners Offers Free Dry Cleaning for Unemployed

| No CommentTo help those who are unemployed in the communities surrounding Flair Cleaners’ five locations (Valencia, Burbank, Studio City, Santa Monica, and Redondo Beach), Flair’s is offering to clean up to four pieces of dry cleaning per week at no charge. This will allow those who are out of work, and out job hunting to show up with confidence in a clean, pressed interview suit without the additional expense of dry cleaning. The offer was originally scheduled only during the summer months, but Flair Cleaners is extending its free dry cleaning offer through Dec. 30.
The offer comes at a good time as unemployment rates in Glendale and Burbank jumped full percentage points in July (approaching 11%), according to a report released by California’s Economic Development Department. The unemployment rate rose to 10.9% in Glendale, up from 9.9% in June, and to 10.2% in Burbank, up from 9.2% in the same period, according to the department. About 800 Glendale workers lost jobs last month and about 500 were let go in Burbank.
Flair Cleaners customers can present a photo ID and an unemployment stub from the Employment Development Department at any of the five locations. The cleaners will accept one jacket, one skirt or pair of pants, and up to two shirts or blouses. Flair Cleaners’ commitment to their communities led to this recent outreach. Participants are invited to return to the same location, with their current EDD stub each Wednesday through December while they are in need.
“We wanted to find a way to show our support for those who have lost their jobs and are out there looking for work,” says Owner Gary Futterman. “Knowing that they’re showing up in their best suit; that it’s clean, that they look polished and professional, may give interviewees the extra confidence boost they need to help get them the job.”
Flair Cleaners originated in Chicago in 1958 as a joint venture of the Futterman and Singer families, and was established in Southern California in 1963. Since that time, Flair has been very active in each of the communities surrounding their five locations. They are also committed to the environment, which earned them a WRAP Award (Waste Reduction Awards Program) for the past several years. This award recognizes California businesses for their outstanding waste reduction.
“At Flair Cleaners, we really do care about our customers and their lives, and we care about how we impact our local communities,” says Futterman.
